This month’s homeschool student spotlight is: Sarah Ellison.
How many years have you been in Classical Conversations? 6 years.
What are your goals for after high school? For a long time, I wanted to teach piano. All of my music teachers, and family and friends, encouraged and inspired me to do so. However, in 2008, with the arrival of the Presidential campaign, Sarah Palin, and a Generation Joshua Student Action Team, God showed me what He wanted me to do with my future. I am now planning on getting my degree in American Politics and Policy and would like to manage campaigns, serve on Capitol Hill, and eventually run for office.
What college will you attend? I have been accepted to Patrick Henry College in Purcellville for fall 2011.
Favorite part of Classical Conversations? My favorite aspect of CC is the accountability and camaraderie that comes with having classmates. I have been homeschooled since 2nd grade, but was always very shy and had few friends. When I started CC in Challenge A, I found a group of people who welcomed me with open arms and helped me become the outgoing leader I am today. Five of us have been together since Challenge A and we will all be graduating together this Spring. We’re a very tight knit group.
How are you involved in the community? I most actively participate in local and state government. I attend meetings, events, dinners, and rallies, and I just completed working on my seventh political campaign. I also am involved in nursing home ministry, have been on two mission’s trips and countless out of state evangelism trips.
What is your favorite hobby? Politics. Hands down.
What is your favorite quote? “Politics isn’t just a game of clashing parties and competing interests. The right reason is to challenge the status quo, to serve the common good, and to leave this nation better than we found it.” –Sarah Palin
What accomplishment are you most proud of? I am most proud of founding the Warren County Teen Republican Committee. I started this committee with the help of an adult sponsor in 2009 because there were no opportunities in our community for kids to get involved in politics. Since then, we have recruited nearly 30 kids, worked on numerous campaigns, hosted huge events, and raised a significant amount of money. We have a presence in the GOP community throughout Virginia and I am now helping surrounding counties get teen groups started in their own areas.
